The world is full of people looking for spectacular happiness while they snub contentment. Doug Larson

Maple tree show me the way
teach me things you know
like how to grow
strong roots and stay
in one place content
maybe it’s inherent
in you though not in me
I’m restless to be to be…

Teach me how to be satisfied
and yet keep reaching for the sky.

  1. Wonderful, Debi. It reminds me of Kilmer’s poem, The Tree, “I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as the tree. A tree that looks at God all day and lifts its lovely arms to pray … ” It was the first poem besides nursery rhymes that I learned. An early grade but I don’t know which.
