imaginarygarden Bits Of Inspiration ~ Shoes Imagined By Susie Clevenger
“Today’s challenge is to write about shoes. It could be a favorite pair, hated pair, your father’s shoes, mother’s shoes. Just go wherever your shoes take you.”
I guess I just find it odd
they say it’s becoming mod
as it was in days gone by.
On the TV console they sat
with signs of daily combat
and I have to wonder why.
Baby shoes all the rage
in bronze to signify the age
of babyhood flown by.
Now, maybe I could see
a newborn’s tiny bootie
bronzed and hung high
on a Christmas tree.
Yet, still I’d find it odd,
maudlin, I think, qualifies
Loved your take on shoes..It has such a poetic charm to it!

Sounds a tad bit peculiar .. but I guess every era has a thing or two 😉 ❤️

I love this! You just reminded me that I have a pair of my father’s baby shoes. Maybe I should bronze them.

In the Dominican Republic, we hang the last pair of shoes (especially running shoes) a recently dead person wore. So, yes… I, too, find it odd.

Well put. There are probably attics all over the country with these bronzed shoes tucked in boxes.

I agree, Debi, it was a maudlin practice. a hangover from Victorian or Edwardian tiem possibly, although I did keep a pair of Chinese slippers that were given to my daughter when she was a baby – she has half-Chinese cousins and they were brought back from Hong Kong. They were so beatiful I stuffed them with tissue paper and kept them on a shelf. I can’t for the life of me think where they’ve gone – maybe Ellen has them now.

That should say ‘beautiful’ – stiff fingers today!

Love this! Still have my baby shoes (75 years long) though they were not bronzed, the leather is intact! Don’t make ’em the way they used to!

I do love that you still have them.

I think I have my own baby shoes somewhere, but they remain hidden.

Baby shoes remain being ‘baby’ that there is a certain feeling of nostalgia just looking at them!

I have always thought it an odd tradition, and I agree maudlin is the perfect word for the feeling it stirs. Thank you so much for writing for the prompt.
